Traveler’s Guide: Explore the Nyx System in Alpha 4.4

I’ve always loved when we get a new system to explore, and this latest entry in the Traveler’s Guide to the Galaxy takes us to a place long whispered about by haulers, miners, and dreamers alike — the Nyx System. Coming with Alpha 4.4, Nyx marks the third star system to officially join the live ’verse. As with every Traveler’s Guide, it offers both a glimpse behind the lore curtain and a look at the design work shaping the next frontier we’ll soon be setting our quantum drives toward.

In this edition, we’ll share a glimpse of what’s on the horizon for Alpha 4.4, along with a look further ahead at content planned for future updates. Anything beyond Alpha 4.4 is, of course, subject to change as development continues.

Welcome to the Nyx System

Nyx is an unclaimed planetary system that sits at the edge of a dark nebula. At its heart burns an F-type main-sequence star, orbited by three planets and two sprawling asteroid belts. It’s the sort of place that feels equal parts lonely and alive — a crossroads of opportunity and danger where independence is both a virtue and a survival skill.

Your approach toward the system’s primary landing zone takes you through the Glaciem Ring — also known as Nyx Belt Alpha — a dense asteroid field between the second and third planets. The belt is littered with old and decommissioned structures, from derelict Breaker Stations to abandoned facilities once run by QV Planet Services. For decades, miners from across the ’verse braved this region chasing fortunes in ore and scrap.

The largest body within the belt is Delamar, an enormous asteroid that now serves as home to the settlement known throughout the ’verse as Levski.

Levski

Built within the hollowed core of Delamar, Levski is Nyx’s primary settlement — a living relic of mining days gone by and a modern emblem of freedom from imperial oversight. Once a QV Planet Services facility, it’s since evolved into a haven for those seeking life beyond the tightening grasp of the United Empire of Earth. Today, it stands as a symbol of self-governance and resistance — a refuge for anyone willing to live by the sweat of their brow and the code of mutual respect.

Levski was founded in SEY 2655 by the People’s Alliance, a group of political dissidents who carved their vision of a fair society into the bones of the abandoned mine. Named after a 19th-century Earth revolutionary, the settlement became a beacon during the oppressive Messer Era, offering sanctuary to refugees fleeing tyranny on Sol III and beyond.

Pirates, smugglers, and wanderers have all passed through Levski’s airlocks. Though its ideals of equality remain strong, the station’s isolation and anti-establishment roots have made it equally attractive to those with less noble intentions. Still, the People’s Alliance endures — holding fast to its dream of a truly free community.

The Tanaka Memorial

At Levski’s entrance stands a solemn statue of an unnamed worker holding the lifeless body of Anthony Tanaka — a child laborer executed in 2757 by an Advocacy agent for refusing to continue a sixteen-hour shift at a munitions plant. Footage of the murder spread throughout the empire, galvanizing the anti-Messer movement. The memorial serves as an ever-present reminder of what the People’s Alliance stands against, and every December 3rd, Anthony Tanaka Remembrance Day honors the child whose defiance became a rallying cry across the ’verse.

Within Levski, Mercy Hospital provides emergency care and advanced treatment to travelers and locals alike. Nearby, the bustling Grand Barter bazaar offers everything from basic supplies to exotic goods — with haggling not only allowed but expected. It’s also home to the iconic Café Musain, a fixture for off-duty miners and wanderers swapping stories between jumps.

The People’s Alliance

Stronger Together

Formed by those who fled the oppressive Messer regime, the People’s Alliance established their utopian colony within Delamar’s ready-made tunnels. Despite the hardships of life on an airless rock, their settlement thrives through cooperation and shared purpose. The Alliance envisions a society where every voice matters and all contribute to the communal goal of enlightened self-sufficiency — though, as ever, there are opportunists ready to exploit such ideals for personal gain.

A Taste of Delamar

Remote, rugged, and rich in character, Delamar has quietly earned a reputation as the origin of some of the most distinctive drinks in the UEE. Whether distilled in cave stills or served in smoky bars, these creations capture the system’s defiant spirit.

Trise Sling

While Trise Cordial isn’t native to Nyx, its most famous cocktail — the Trise Sling — may well be. This whiskey-based drink, popularized at Area18’s G-Loc Bar, is said to have originated on Delamar. Local bartender Clair Rios of Café Musain claims she first mixed it in 2911, only for the recipe to be “borrowed” by G-Loc staff passing through. Whether stolen or shared, the Sling remains a staple across the UEE — but here in Nyx, it’s still considered a homegrown classic.

Jynx Gin

Distilled and bottled on Delamar, Jynx Gin owes its faint pink glow and rebellious bite to the bioluminescent omphalotus mushroom. First brewed in 2901 by bartender and local legend Alta Turei, the gin began as an experiment to use ingredients native to Delamar’s harsh terrain. After numerous failed attempts, Turei struck gold with the omphalotus, producing a spirit that quite literally glows — a taste of rebellion in a bottle. Today, from quiet lounges to busy spaceports, Jynx Gin is the choice of bartenders looking to serve something with both flair and story.

A Glimpse Ahead

Beyond Alpha 4.4

The Traveler’s Guide also offers a look at what lies further down the jump corridor. The following features are still in development and not slated for Alpha 4.4, reflecting longer-term goals that may evolve as work progresses.

Locations

Future content drops will expand Nyx with additional points of interest and infrastructure. Early concepts include:

  • Breaker Stations — derelict industrial platforms repurposed for refueling, salvage, or less legal dealings.
  • Municipal Works — subterranean maintenance complexes supporting Levski’s power and life-support grids.
  • Tactical Strike Groups — frontier-era installations tied to Nyx’s patchwork defense network.

Planets

Nyx I

A green yet currently uninhabitable world undergoing experimental terraformation. Some in the People’s Alliance dream of transforming it into a breathable haven, while others fear abundant resources could erode their hard-won collectivist values.

Nyx II

An oppressive smog world where the air itself is toxic and stifling. Though terraformation remains beyond reach, its hostile environment hides potential riches — for those daring or desperate enough to claim them.

Nyx III

The outermost planet of the system, an immense ice giant with a storm-churned atmosphere. Its swirling blues and silvers dominate the distant horizon and serve as a reminder of just how wild and uncharted Nyx remains.
