This Week in Star Citizen: Alpha 4.8, DefenseCon 2956, and the May 11 Schedule

DEFENSECON 2956 AND ALPHA 4.8 — LAUNCH WEEK SCHEDULE

This week has DefenseCon 2956 stamped all over it. Alpha 4.8 goes live mid-week, Tactical Strike Groups arrives with it, Drake Interplanetary opens the show floor on Thursday, and the Star Citizen Live DefenseCon Showcase follows on Friday. CIG also opened the week with a nod to recent Bar Citizen stops in Seoul and Paris, with Basel, Switzerland next on the World Tour.

Last week brought the April PU Monthly Report, a Roadmap Update, and a Star Citizen Live focused on vehicle gameplay, design, and balance. The full Alpha 4.8 preview from Inside Star Citizen also went out, with Tactical Strike Groups headlining a patch built around ship combat, FPS action, and large-scale cooperative objectives. Not a quiet week in Stanton by any measure.

DefenseCon 2956 runs from May 14 through May 27 at the Bevic Convention Center in Area18. Drake Interplanetary opens the show floor on Day 1 with new ship reveals and rotating free rentals. The event leans into fire and attitude rather than the ceremonial weight of the UEE Navy — hardware takes center stage, and the everyday defenders of the verse are the ones being celebrated.

Star Citizen is free to play for the full duration of DefenseCon. Referral Bonuses are active for the event window, and Twitch Drops are running across all participating channels for the two weeks. Four hours of watch time on any Drops-enabled stream earns the event reward — the Tailwind "Murray Cup" Set, comprising the Tailwind Helmet Murray Cup and Tailwind Flight Suit Murray Cup.

Monday opens with the DefenseCon 2956 Spectrum FAQ — the first stop for anyone getting their bearings before the event begins. Tuesday follows with the Manufacturer Schedule Comm-Link, laying out how to plan your week at the convention.

Wednesday is the main event: Alpha 4.8 goes live, and Tactical Strike Groups arrives with it. CIG will also publish a dedicated Tactical Strike Groups Spectrum FAQ and an Alpha 4.8 Features Q&A Comm-Link covering key questions about the patch.

Thursday marks DefenseCon Day 1 at the Bevic Convention Center, with Drake Interplanetary and Grey's Market taking center stage. The Ironclad, Ironclad Assault, and Pitbull are all specifically called out, each covered in a dedicated Ships Q&A Comm-Link. A DefenseCon Referral Bonus Comm-Link also goes live, and CIG has teased a contest for the everyday heroes of the verse.

Friday brings Star Citizen Live: DefenseCon Showcase at 14:00 UTC on twitch.tv/starcitizen — a roundtable discussion with live in-engine visuals of every flyable ship introduced at this year's event. The RSI Weekly Newsletter also ships the same day.

Saturday keeps the World Tour moving with Bar Citizen Basel, Switzerland, while DefenseCon Day 3 continues in-verse with Origin Jumpworks, RSI, and Kruger Intergalactic on the show floor and a dedicated Origin M80 Ships Q&A Comm-Link going out the same day.
