This Week in Star Citizen - May 18, 2026

Alpha 4.8: Tactical Strike is officially live, and this week in Star Citizen is very much about getting you into the fight with a crew that knows which end of the bomber points at the problem. Tactical Strike Groups are built around cooperation, with fighters clearing the approach, bombers knocking out defensive systems, dropships putting boots on the ground, and capital ships keeping the fleet alive, armed, and fueled.

CIG has also published a dedicated Tactical Strike Groups FAQ and a developer Q&A covering Alpha 4.8’s major additions. If you are trying to form up before heading toward Nyx, the new LFG lobby on Spectrum is now being used by Citizens organizing for the push.

Beyond the co-op combat focus, Alpha 4.8 brings a major logistics step forward with Ship Hangar Service T0. Dedicated service ships can now support other vessels directly from their flight decks using physicalized resources stored in their cargo grids. New refueling missions also let pilots keep each other moving across the wider stretches of the ’verse.

Alpha 4.8 launched with a comprehensive wipe. Earned aUEC, in-game purchased vehicles, items, resources, reputation progression, and Wikelo/Executive rewards have all been reset. CIG frames the wipe as part of the move toward a more stable economy as new systems come online, with additional safeguards against exploits and duplication already in place and more improvements planned.

Experimental VR Support has also received an update, improving interaction prompts, FPS crosshairs, hit markers, and general usability. CIG has also released its first experimental Haptic System Support update for players using more immersive hardware.

DefenseCon 2956 Rolls On

DefenseCon 2956 is underway at the Bevic Convention Center in Area18 and runs until May 27. With Invictus pulled back to Sol, Drake Interplanetary has stepped in to host what CIG calls the galaxy’s boldest arms expo. You can tour manufacturer halls, take ships for free test flights, and earn rewards through the Referral Bonus program and Twitch Drops available via participating streams.

The event has already introduced the Drake Ironclad and Ironclad Assault, the Drake Pitbull, the Origin M80, and the MISC Starlite. The Aegis Tiburon is also set to make its debut in just a few days, because apparently the week needed more weaponized excitement.

DefenseCon Is Not Done Yet

Monday puts Days 5 and 6 in the hands of MISC, Mirai, Argo Astronautics, and Greycat Industrial. Alongside that showcase, the MISC Starlite has officially released, with an updated Q&A Comm-Link to go with it.

The Free Fly is now live and runs through May 27. CIG says the start was held back until a variety of important fixes could be added, especially around missions and overall stability. The team says things are in a better place, but it is still focused on fixing remaining issues and monitoring closely. Feedback and issue reports from players remain encouraged.

On Wednesday, Aegis takes the floor for Days 7 and 8, bringing the long-awaited debut of the Aegis Tiburon and its Q&A update. A Roadmap Update is also planned, marking Alpha 4.8 cards as Released while CIG begins charting the path toward Alpha 4.9.

Friday moves DefenseCon to Crusader and Tumbril for Days 9 and 10, while the RSI Weekly Newsletter is also scheduled to go out.

Sunday closes the week with Anvil Aerospace on DefenseCon Day 11 and the return of Star Citizen Live for a dedicated Q&A on the Anvil Odin, the massive battlecruiser currently looming over Area18’s skyline like it owns the place.
