Cloud Imperium Games Montréal

Cloud Imperium Games Montréal is a video game development studio dedicated to Star Citizen and Squadron 42 and is the Canadian division of Cloud Imperium Games.

The Montreal studio takes care of a large part of the entire online aspect.

History

The studio emerges from Turbulent, which is better known for its technological solutions than for video games and which was acquired by CIG in 2023,

Everything Turbulent did that is related to video games had to be supported by a strong brand that was immediately associated with that gaming identity, this motivated to rename part of the company. In August 2025, part of Turbulent became a creative agency retaining the Turbulent name, which is still very strong in the web world, while the section of Turbulent dedicated to the video game development of Star Citizen and Squadron 2 becomes Cloud Imperium Games Montréal.

CIG Montreal and Turbulent also use different logos. Branding the video game development pole with the CIG name which is known as a gaming company is to help distinguish the gaming development pole from the technological solutions Turbulent is known for, and thus is to help attract and recruit gamedevs.

As of 2025, CIG montreal seeks to number 150 employees: UI, UX, 3D developers who work on ships, characters, environments, but there is also have a constant demand for programming. CIG Montreal also has a team that's undergoing specific training in gameplay programming to strengthen everything related to core MMO mechanics.

Each year CIG Montréal gets mandates totalling 25 millions $ US from CIG.
