Gameplay Gameplay Mechanics Wiki Article

Cybernetic prosthetics are a planned feature of Star Citizen, to replace destroyed body parts.

This includes bionics, such a robotic eyes, for which the backend has already been implemented. They are dependent on Actor Status V2 and Medical V2 features, which are both tied to Death of a Spaceman. They are already visible on some NPCs such as Recco Battaglia in Levski which helps fill their backstory visually.

CIG wants an array of options, from beginners to more advanced options, different sources such as government issue or pirate outlander.

CIG has also been exploring how they would work with clothes, either exposing the prosthetics in full or partially.

It still isn't known if players will be able to create their character with an artificial limb or if they will have to ask a friend for their "help".

They were initially seen as more cosmetic and not physically augment the players body. Since then, there have been mentions of some proesthetics being able to give advantages such as with aim, but with downsides as well including the possibility of getting disabled by EMP.

Weaknesses

The prosthetics will be able to take damage during a fight and to be repaired by being taken to a cybernetic repair facility, which could be on a planet or potentially in a large medbay on a capital ship.

They will likely be vulnerable to EMP and be taken out of action for a brief period, similar to the effects of a stun grenade.

Lore

Because there was such a high demand suddenly for cybernetic replacement after the siege of Tiber, there was cybernetic breakthroughs that allowed improved synaptic responses, known as tibering after the name of the system.

People have encountered problems with their cybernetic limbs such as nerve pain, to ease various symptoms related to having cybernetic limbs that can develop over time people have been going in orbit of Gliese I because of it's strong magnetics. There is yet to be medical evidence that this helps yet a lot of people believe it works.

Quotes

"One of my goals with Star Citizen is to make it feel very visceral and real. I want to feel the effects of physical damage on my character, loss of limb or other mishaps that can happen in the danger of space. If my character has been through several wars, I want to see the scars on him/her – perhaps a cybernetic arm because one was lost in firefight or the wrong side of a dogfight. I want to be able to walk up to another player in a bar and SEE that he or she is a grizzled veteran with the battle scars to prove it. This is the kind of detail, texture, and immersion that I want to achieve with Star Citizen." -Chris Roberts.

"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me"-Magos-Dominus Reditus
