Idris P, M and Idris Kits Explained

Idris P, M and Idris Kits Explained

What’s the difference between the Idris-P, Idris-M, and the K and T kits? Compare the ships, laser and torpedo loadouts, and included equipment to find the right configuration for your fleet—and understand exactly what each kit adds.

The Aegis Idris is one of Star Citizen’s most recognisable capital ships, but its different configurations can make choosing one confusing. What separates the Idris-P from the Idris-M? And where do the Idris K and T kits fit in?

The first distinction is simple: the Idris-P and Idris-M are ships. The K and T kits are aftermarket equipment packages for an existing Idris. Each kit changes the ship’s armament and includes a paint, but neither includes the ship itself.

Idris configurations at a glance

Option What it is Defining main weapon Why choose it?
Idris-P Civilian frigate Empty Size 10 main weapon hardpoint as standard A starting point for a customised Idris loadout
Idris K Kit Equipment package; ship required Size 10 Exodus laser beam An energy-based main battery
Idris T Kit Equipment package; ship required Launcher firing Size 12 torpedoes A torpedo-focused capital combat loadout
Idris-M Military frigate Size 10 Destroyer mass driver, commonly called the railgun The military configuration from the start

Idris-P: the Peacekeeper

The Idris-P, or Peacekeeper, is the civilian version of the Idris. It retains the capital-ship platform and fighter-carrying capability, while leaving the main weapon choice to its owner.

Its empty main hardpoint does not mean the entire ship is unarmed. The distinction concerns the large forward-facing weapon: the base P does not arrive with the M’s railgun or either kit’s replacement main weapon.

For an organisation planning its own configuration, the P is a natural starting point. You can choose the equipment around the role you want the ship to perform, rather than treating the factory loadout as the final destination.

Idris K Kit: the laser configuration

The K kit centres on the Exodus laser beam. Its published equipment package includes:

  • A Size 10 laser beam for the main mount.
  • A replacement manned missile turret with 32 Size 3 missiles.
  • Five Size 2 laser point-defence systems.
  • The Marauder paint.

Choose the K kit if an energy main weapon is central to your preferred combat style. Its beam offers a different way to engage targets from the military mass driver or the T kit’s torpedoes. That does not make it universally stronger: weapon balance, engagement conditions and crew coordination still matter.

The T kit builds its loadout around capital torpedoes. Its published package includes:

  • A main launcher with four Size 12 torpedo tubes and 20 torpedoes in total.
  • A replacement manned turret with two Size 7 ballistic cannons.
  • Five Size 2 missile point-defence systems.
  • The Nightbreak paint.

This is the package to consider if you want torpedoes to define your Idris’s offensive role. As a practical choice, that means planning around a finite torpedo supply and opportunities to deliver it effectively. The additional ballistic turret also gives the crew a separate heavy gun position.

Idris M - Original Concept LTI - Star Citizen - The ImpoundIdris-M: the military starting point

The Idris-M is the military variant. Its defining factory weapon is the large forward-mounted mass driver, supported by the military armament configuration.

The choice between P and M is therefore about the underlying ship and its starting equipment. The M suits buyers specifically seeking the military Idris, while the P suits those planning a configuration around their preferred aftermarket weapons.

An Idris-P fitted with a K or T kit remains an equipped Idris-P. Buying a kit does not turn the ship into an Idris-M.

Can you combine the K and T kits?

CIG describes the kits as equipment whose components can be combined to suit your preferred loadout. You are not limited to treating each package as an indivisible configuration.

Compatible components must still fit the available mounts. The main laser and torpedo launcher are alternatives for the same main weapon position; owning both kits does not give the ship two main weapon mounts.

Which option should you choose?

  • Choose the Idris-P if you need the ship and want to build your preferred armament configuration.
  • Choose the K kit if you already have an Idris and want the laser package.
  • Choose the T kit if you already have an Idris and want the torpedo package.
  • Choose the Idris-M if owning the military variant is your priority.

Before ordering, check the individual listing’s contents and insurance details. A kit listing includes equipment, not an Idris, and a paint alone does not add weapons.

Equipment figures follow CIG’s published Idris specifications. Star Citizen remains in development, and loadouts, balance and equipment behaviour can change between patches.
