Meet the Constellation MK V Centaurus

Meet the Constellation MK V Centaurus

Explore the RSI Constellation Mk V Centaurus: 240 SCU cargo, heavy firepower, a Skylark snub and a 3D ship viewer. Shop ships and paints at The Impound.

A Constellation has always been more than a cockpit and a cargo hold. It is the ship you bring when the next contract might lead somewhere unexpected: a delivery that needs an escort, a landing zone that calls for a ground vehicle, or a journey best shared with a few familiar voices on the bridge.

The RSI Constellation Mk V Centaurus takes that idea further. A larger hull makes room for 240 SCU of cargo, a redesigned four-person bridge, substantial weapons, and a dedicated RSI Skylark snub. It is a more capable home for a small crew, with a heavier flight profile to match.

The Centaurus at a glance

  • Role: multi-role ship combining freight capacity and gunship armament.
  • Crew: pilot, co-pilot, and two remote turret operators.
  • Cargo: 240 SCU, with a descending cargo elevator.
  • Pilot weapons: four Size 5 guns.
  • Turrets: two remote turrets, each mounting four Size 3 guns.
  • Missiles: 32 Size 2 missiles across two racks.
  • Protection: two Size 3 shield generators.
  • Snub: a dedicated dock for the RSI Skylark.

The appeal is flexibility. You can carry a meaningful shipment, bring a ground vehicle, and put a second craft into space without making a dedicated carrier the centre of your fleet.

What changes from the Mk IV?

The Mk V is a larger ship in every dimension, not simply a new finish on the previous hull. RSI has used that extra room to expand the cargo area, improve access to components, and give the crew better accommodation.

The bridge is one of the clearest changes. The old canopy struts are gone, opening the view ahead, while the pilot, co-pilot, and both remote gunners share the same room. Elsewhere, internal access to the missile racks lets crew members replenish them during flight.

That growth brings a trade-off. Compared with the Mk IV, the Mk V turns and accelerates more slowly. It gains durability, an additional Size 3 shield generator, and a higher NAV speed, but it needs more room to manoeuvre. Think of it as a more substantial multi-role platform, not a more agile fighter.

240 SCU, with room for a Nova

The cargo deck supports both freight hauling and ground-vehicle operations.

A 240 SCU hold gives the Centaurus a substantial working space. The descending elevator brings the deck down to the landing zone, making freight and vehicle access a central part of the ship's design.

RSI confirms that the enlarged bay can accommodate large ground vehicles, including the Tumbril Nova. That makes the Centaurus an option for crews who want their transport to carry more than personal equipment.

Vehicles and cargo share the same space. Carrying a Nova does not leave the full 240 SCU available for freight. The useful question before each departure is how to divide the deck between the shipment, the vehicle, and the supplies your crew wants to bring.

The pilot controls four Size 5 guns. Two remote turrets add another eight Size 3 guns, split between quad mounts above and below the hull. Each turret is operated by a separate crew member from the bridge, giving those additional seats a clear purpose when a quiet route becomes contested.

The missile loadout totals 32 Size 2 missiles, carried in two bespoke racks. Internal storage sits behind the racks so the crew can reload them in flight. That is a missile-restocking capability, not a promise of unlimited ammunition.

Two Size 3 shield generators and reinforced armour help the larger hull absorb punishment. It remains less heavily armoured than dedicated warships such as the Hammerhead and Perseus. The Centaurus can bring considerable force to a multi-role mission without becoming a substitute for every specialised combat ship.

Meet the RSI Skylark

The Skylark is the Mk V Centaurus's dedicated snub fighter.

The Skylark gives the crew a second cockpit without requiring a second independently travelling ship. Its prone pilot position keeps the craft slim, while three Size 2 guns and ten Size 1 missiles provide a substantial armament for a snub.

It also carries two shield generators. RSI describes the result as resilient for its class, but relatively heavy and less agile than some other snubs. While docked, the Skylark's inventory and personal weapon rack can be accessed from the Centaurus.

Two docking details worth knowing: the Mk V dock accepts the Skylark, not the P-52 Merlin or P-72 Archimedes. It also does not provide mothership refuelling, rearming, or repair functionality.

Four crew. One place to call home.

Pilot, co-pilot, and remote turret operators work together on the same bridge.

The Centaurus makes a case for bringing people aboard beyond simply filling weapon stations. Its redesigned interior includes sleeping accommodation for four, a kitchen, communal seating, and a pool table.

Those spaces give the ship a different character from a purely functional transport. There is room to organise the next job, return from a flight in the Skylark, or spend time with the crew between destinations. Improved access to internal components supports the working side of that shared space.

Give it your signature

The Heritage finish gives the Mk V a distinctly different presence.

The factory finish keeps the Centaurus restrained in grey and white. Other official finishes include Blackthorn, Convergence, Heritage, Patrician, and Magnitude, offering combinations from dark purple and black to red, blue, yellow, and orange.

Paint availability and inclusion depend on the individual product. A finish shown in a promotional image should not be assumed to come with every ship listing.

Behind the ship

RSI's Behind the Ships feature takes a closer look at the thinking behind the Centaurus. The Mk V retains the Constellation's recognisable character while changing how its crew works, lives, and uses the space aboard.

Is the Centaurus right for your fleet?

The Centaurus is an appealing choice for a small group that wants its main ship to handle different kinds of work. Its cargo deck can anchor a hauling session, its vehicle capacity opens up surface operations, and its weapons and Skylark give the crew options when the mission changes.

The compromises matter just as much. This is a large hull with a heavier response than the Mk IV. Its remote turrets are crew-operated, and the Skylark dock is not a repair bay. Buyers who want the agility of a fighter or the armour of a dedicated warship should judge it on those terms rather than on its gun count alone.

For the crew that values a broad range of jobs, shared space, and a ship with a recognisable identity, the Centaurus brings the Constellation idea into a more substantial form.
