Cargo, medical, refinery
The original three configurations establish the Galaxy's logistics, treatment and processing roles. Their individual release schedules remain unconfirmed.
Evidence and context
Meet the Galaxy / The complete guide
A freighter, hospital or refinery, built around one modular hull. Meet RSI's six-crew Galaxy: a future home for your next big operation.
Original concept artwork / CIG01 / The big idea
Run freight. Receive casualties. Process a mining fleet's haul. The Galaxy is designed to take on each role through a replaceable central module, while retaining its command spaces, crew accommodation and aft hangar.
That is the draw: a specialist workspace without committing your crew to one career forever. For a group ready to build an operation around a shared ship, the Galaxy is one of RSI's most exciting prospects.

One specialist module is fitted at a time. Changing careers is an outfitting decision at a suitable facility, not a mid-flight mode switch. How modularity works
02 / Choose your role
Three announced configurations. One dedicated module bay. Each gives the Galaxy a different job at the heart of your fleet.

Cargo module / Original concept cutaway, CIG.
01 / Cargo / Move the operation
Keep the fleet supplied and bring the haul home. With a dedicated container deck and central loading lift, the cargo Galaxy is designed to make logistics the main event, not an afterthought.
Where it shines
Bulk trading, expedition resupply and fleet logistics. Load for the destination, keep a shuttle aboard, and give the rest of the group a reason to meet you there.
576 SCU combined: 512 in the module plus 64 in the base hull. These are the original concept capacities; updated-model figures are still unconfirmed.

Medical module / Original concept cutaway, CIG.
02 / Medical / Keep the crew in the fight
Give a rescue team somewhere to bring its patients. The medical module combines three tiers of treatment beds in one dedicated interior, making the Galaxy a compelling support hub for operations far from familiar facilities.
Where it shines
Search-and-rescue groups, expedition medicine and casualty reception. A dedicated medical crew gives the wider operation a place to regroup when plans unravel.
The bed layout is announced; final treatment and regeneration behavior will depend on the medical systems available at release.

Refinery module / Original concept cutaway, CIG.
03 / Refinery / Give the mining fleet a home
Keep the miners working and give their deliveries a destination. Two large reactors and storage for raw and refined material make the refinery Galaxy the processing link in a coordinated industrial fleet.
Where it shines
Prospector and MOLE crews working together. Their compatible cargo saddlebags connect the mining side of the operation to the Galaxy's processing role.
A refinery, not a mining ship: ore comes from other vessels. The original design has no direct feed from refined Quantanium to the Galaxy's own tanks.

04 / Life aboard
The Galaxy is more than its module. A bridge, shared living spaces and an aft hangar give a six-person crew somewhere to build a routine.

Forward command spaces put navigation and coordination at the front of the operation.
The central module gives a freight crew, medical team or industrial group its specialist workspace.
The aft hangar brings small-craft access and base-hull cargo storage to every configuration.

Small craft / Big possibilities
The original aft layout accommodates an XXS craft alongside two 32 SCU cargo grids. The Pisces and MPUV are among CIG's examples of suitable craft; a Prospector is too large.
That pairing makes the Galaxy an appealing base for a group: send a shuttle ahead, ferry people to the ship, and keep supplies aboard whatever module you choose.
64 SCU of base storage, with the hangar still available.
Original hangar guidance
Six crew / One operation
The mess hall and shared spaces give the concept something a specification sheet cannot: the feeling of a ship your group could call its own. Plan the next route, wait for the last shuttle, and regroup after the unexpected.
The published crew figure is six. Piloting, turret operation and specialist work make this a multi-crew proposition, with the exact workload dependent on the final ship and its systems.
Published crew baseline
Command / Coordination
Some captains want to lead the charge. Others want to bring the ship the whole operation depends on. With the appropriate module, the Galaxy can be the destination for a mining delivery, the center of a rescue plan or the source of the next resupply.
That is its strongest appeal: not doing every job at once, but making a larger undertaking possible.
05 / From announcement to production
From its 2022 reveal to the latest model, the Galaxy has gathered new ambitions, a few controversies and tangible production milestones.
Unveiled during IAE 2952 with cargo, medical and refinery configurations. The original pitch establishes a multi-role civilian hull built around a replaceable central module.
Read the sourceCitizenCon discussion links the Galaxy to base-building. That ambition becomes a major part of the ship's appeal, and later the subject of clarification.
Read the sourceAfter conflicting October statements, John Crewe clarifies that a large-drone construction module remains planned. It is a future addition, not the first large-scale building option or a dated release.

The original three configurations establish the Galaxy's logistics, treatment and processing roles. Their individual release schedules remain unconfirmed.
Evidence and contextThe official introduction names manufacturing as a later module. Onboard production could be a major new role, but equipment, recipes and timing have not been detailed.
Evidence and contextCIG reaffirmed a future large-drone construction module in October 2024. It remains an official plan, with no confirmed delivery date.
Evidence and contextPopular wish-list directions for the modular deck. They are intriguing possibilities, but none is an announced Galaxy module in the sources reviewed.
Evidence and contextPlayers have suggested combat configurations and more flight-support space. Neither those modules nor extra pilot guns or point defense are confirmed by the new renders.
Evidence and contextThree announced professions already give the Galaxy an unusually broad foundation. Manufacturing and construction could take it further still: from supporting an expedition to helping establish what comes next.
07 / Know the baseline
The original published concept figures remain the reference here until CIG supplies replacement specifications for the updated model.

| Refinery module | 2 reactors |
| Hangar | XXS class (original design) |
| Remote turrets | 3 turrets, each with 2 x Size 5 guns |
| Missiles | 2 x Size 4 launchers, each holding 4 x Size 2 missiles |
| Power / cooling | 2 x Size 3 power plants / 2 x Size 3 coolers |

Three twin-Size 5 remote turrets give the original design a serious defensive presence. Their purpose fits the ship: protect the crew, the patients and the haul while the operation keeps moving.
In the original control scheme, crew operate the turrets and the pilot controls missiles. The Galaxy is a support platform with defensive armament, rather than a dedicated frontline gunship.
Original weapon-control intent
The right crew
Small organizations, regular multi-crew groups and captains who enjoy logistics, medicine or industry. The Galaxy offers a rare combination: a recognizable home ship and several distinct directions to take it.
The trade-off
Its flexibility depends on outfitting and teamwork. It is a less natural fit for solo pilots seeking every profession at once, or anyone who needs a finished ship today. Choose for the announced roles; treat future additions as potential.
08 / Before you commit
Useful answers, with the promises kept separate from the possibilities.
Not as of this guide's 22 October 2026 research. The latest official report confirms it passed greybox review and moved into detailed production; it does not announce a live-game release.
Check the sourceIAE 2026 is the widely reported target from the November 2025 Star Citizen Live discussion. Treat that as a development target, not a guaranteed release day or a promise that every module will be ready at launch.
Check the sourceThe official matrix lists the Carrack as of this guide's 22 October 2026 check. Loaners are temporary, require an eligible account and game package, and may change. They are not a permanent second ship.
Check the sourceThe original Q&A describes the base hull without an installed module. Check the exact contents of a hull, module or bundle listing before buying.
Check the sourceNo. The Galaxy is designed around a single role-defining module position. Its flexibility is the ability to change configuration, not to carry a hospital, refinery and full cargo module simultaneously.
Check the sourceOriginal design intent calls for a suitable facility and the relevant parts on site. It is an outfitting decision, not an instant mode switch during a mission.
Check the sourceThe original Q&A places medical beds in the medical module, not in the base ship.
Check the sourceThat is not confirmed. A reported increase in hull length does not by itself establish larger cargo grids or a new hangar class. The published concept figures remain the reference for now.
Check the sourceThe original Q&A does not provide a direct feed from refined Quantanium to the ship's own fuel tank. Do not buy it on the assumption of Odyssey-style self-refueling.
Check the sourceNo. CIG's October 2024 follow-up reaffirmed a future large-drone module after earlier confusing statements. That is stronger than a rumor, but still not a delivery date.
