It's an essential part of creating a large number of planets and systems that still feel detailed and alive, in order to fill the entire Star Citizen universe without the developers having to place everything by hand.
At the core of Genesis are a number of data-maps that are applied to a planet to determine data-driven ground texturing and the scattering of assets. Temperature and Humidity were already used for this in Planet Tech v4. For Genesis and Planet Tech v5 more were added including Geology, Soil Type and Soil Depth.
The end goal of it is that the simulation of the planet and how it’s built is physically accurate.
