Initially named Nova Kiev, derived from the Russian Киев, Cloud Imperium Games renamed it to the correct Ukranian version Nova Kyiv in 2023, derived from the Ukranian Київ, following a player pointing out the Ukranian government concerted efforts to correct the international spelling.
