Thruster
What to know
Thruster s are the essential defining component separating a ship from a space station.
Thruster s are the essential defining component separating a ship from a space station.
They draw power from the power plant to use with a likely mix of hydrogen and hydrogen fusion by-products from the power plant in order to generate thrust, allowing ships to move under their own power.
Thrusters used by many aerospace-craft can be collected into four groups:
The main thrusters providing the majority of the ship's sustainable thrust and almost all "forward" thrust.
The retro thrusters providing the majority of the ship's "braking" or "backward" thrust.
The maneuvering thrusters scattered across a vehicle and providing some translation control and the majority of attitude control using intermittent thrust.
The vertical take-off and landing thrusters that provide an aerospace-craft with sustainable thrust with which it can hover and launch vertically.
