Star Citizen Ship Recovery: ASOP Claims and Bricked Ships

ASOP fleet-management terminal at Area18

A missing ship, a failed retrieval and a bricked hull need different fixes. Recover your vessel through ASOP without overlooking the loadout or cargo you want to keep.

A ship that will not appear in its hangar does not always need replacing. In Star Citizen Alpha 4.10.2, a missing Deliver button, a retrieval error and a destroyed ship call for different responses. Start with the terminal’s location and status, then choose the recovery step that fits what has actually happened. A claim creates a replacement; it is a poor first response to a menu that simply needs a restart.

When you need the ship you already have

Use an ASOP terminal at the spaceport or in your personal hangar. Interact with the console, deliver the ship if required and retrieve it, then follow the assigned hangar through the nearby lifts. If you are still learning that first trip from the hab to the cockpit, our first-session guide covers the departure and return.

Read an error before trying another action. A terminal can tell you that a vehicle is unavailable at that location or that you need to wait. For a ship that has landed normally, use the terminal’s Store action to put it away; filing a claim is not a substitute for storing it.

Deliver is missing, or storage gets stuck

The Alpha 4.10.2 known-issues list identifies missing Deliver options at Levski and Checkmate, potentially elsewhere too. Restart the game or try another location. At Area18, storing from a hangar terminal can instead leave you stuck in “Repositioning Player”; the documented escape is to return to the main menu and rejoin.

The ship cannot be retrieved

Check whether the hangar can accommodate it. A personal hangar assigned before you acquired a larger ship does not automatically grow to fit the new arrival. Another location may provide a larger temporary hangar.

For “Failed to retrieve vehicle”, travelling to another location and trying there is the usual support workaround. If the platform stores the ship too quickly, summon a different ship first and then the one you want. When you own only one, support also describes claiming it immediately after it spawns, before it disappears; use that specific workaround only after considering the replacement consequences below.

If travelling elsewhere does not resolve the retrieval error, RSI Support lists a further workaround: buy some cargo into the affected ship, then try another location. Treat that as a specific fallback, not a required step for every failed spawn.

If duplicates appear in the list, try the entry with the highest numerical suffix. If none of your ships can be summoned, contact RSI Support. Report the recurring bug through the Issue Council rather than assuming every failed retrieval has the same cause.

Before you claim: what are you trying to save?

  • The working ship itself: try the retrieval or location workaround first when the fault is at the terminal. A claim replaces the ship; it does not bring the same hull home.
  • Fitted equipment: check the last insured loadout. Parts fitted after that saved configuration are not automatically covered by it.
  • Cargo still in the old hull: do not assume it transfers to the replacement. If the old ship remains accessible, check for remaining freight before scrapping it.
  • Your character: an ASOP failure is not, by itself, a reason to run Character Repair. Our Character Repair guide explains the problems it can address and its limits.

Keep the loadout you meant to recover

Basic Alpha insurance does not expire, but replacing a ship can still incur an in-game charge. Without custom loadout insurance, a claim returns the standard equipment. With it, recovery uses the last insured configuration—not automatically the last parts you fitted.

  1. At ASOP, select the ship and choose Insure Loadout.
  2. Review the equipment list, choose INSURE and confirm replacement of the previous saved configuration.

Review what the terminal actually lists; do not assume the snapshot includes every loose item or cargo aboard. The green insured indicator can fail to display. Repeatedly insuring an unchanged loadout can still charge you, so do not treat a missing check mark as proof that the save failed.

File a claim when a replacement is needed

For a destroyed, stolen or stranded ship, open ASOP, select the vehicle and choose Claim. Check its location and status before confirming File a Claim. Where both a carried vehicle and its ship need claims, claim the vehicle first.

If filing fails, leave the Persistent Universe, select another region and retry. Check current known issues before repeating the attempt.

Expediting is available again

Alpha 4.10 restored paid expediting for both claims and deliveries. Older Alpha 4.8 instructions saying it was removed describe an earlier release. Access the ship’s ASOP entry again to use the expedite option.

Recovery time scales with the vehicle’s value, so there is no single wait that applies to every ship. Fitted weapons and weapon racks also contribute to the claim calculation. Use the terminal’s current information for your vessel; a small fighter’s recovery time is not a reliable guide to a capital ship’s. The 4.10 notes also state that successive claims on the same ship do not become progressively more expensive.

A bricked ship is the old copy, not your replacement

When a claim produces a replacement, the previous ship and its fitted components become bricked: inert and unusable. The old hull can remain visible, with a worn appearance and a bricked status in ASOP. Finding it again does not give you a second working ship.

Recover any remaining cargo before scrapping the old hull. If you can go aboard, check the hold first. The scrap action removes that ship; it is not a cargo-recovery service.

Find the delivered ship in the ASOP list and use its scrap icon. If the personal-hangar terminal does not offer it, try the spaceport terminal near the hangar lifts. Other bricked items can be discarded through a freight elevator or placed aboard a ship you already intend to scrap. If disposal fails, report it rather than expecting the item to become functional again.

When the ship is present but services are missing

An empty repair, refuel or restock screen is a separate problem. After landing, allow several minutes, let the hangar doors close where applicable, then reopen Landing Services in mobiGlas. Our landing-services troubleshooting guide covers that fault without turning a routine stop into a replacement claim.

For unresolved ASOP errors, an Issue Council report is more useful when it identifies the ship, location, build and exact failed action. A successful claim, a successful retrieval and a successfully stored ship are different outcomes; make clear which one stopped working.
