Origin M80 - Beauty is Power

Origin Jumpworks enters the heavy fighter category for the first time with the M80 — a solo platform carrying concealed S5 and S4 weaponry, dual shields, and 20 missiles behind one of the most striking hulls in the verse. Power and elegance, fully realized.

SHIP SPOTLIGHT
THE HEAVY FIGHTER THAT REDEFINES THE CATEGORY

Origin Jumpworks builds ships for pilots who consider performance and beauty to be the same thing. Every model they produce carries that philosophy — but the M80 takes it somewhere new. This is Origin's first heavy fighter, a category defined by firepower and durability rather than speed or elegance, and they have turned it into something that looks like it should not exist: a ship that genuinely captivates before it destroys.
The M80 is a solo platform. One pilot, the most lethal personal loadout Origin has ever put on a ship, and a hull built to outlast everything it engages. The weapons are concealed until needed — emerging with what Origin describes, with characteristic restraint, as lethal grace. Once they are out, the conversation is over.

ORIGIN'S FIRST HEAVY FIGHTER
Heavy fighters as a category are defined by what they accept rather than what they avoid. They trade agility for armor, speed for firepower, and the ability to dart out of trouble for the ability to simply not be stopped. Most manufacturers approach that brief with blunt pragmatism. Origin approaches it the way they approach everything — by asking why durability and refinement should be mutually exclusive.

The M80 is the answer. It is a heavy fighter in every meaningful performance sense — high durability, serious armaments, built to outlast opponents through resilience and firepower rather than evasion. But it carries that capability in a hull that bears no resemblance to anything else in the category. The concealed weapon system is the defining characteristic: at rest, the M80 presents clean lines and an exterior that reveals nothing of what it carries. When engaged, the weapons emerge. The transformation is deliberate and it is part of how Origin positions the ship — a machine that captivates its target before it destroys it.
ARMAMENT
The M80's weapon loadout is not subtle. Two S5 and two S4 hardpoints make this Origin's most heavily armed ship by a considerable margin — S5 weapons on a solo fighter represent serious capability against hulls that would expect to be engaging something with a crew behind it. Combined, the four guns provide both the sustained damage output and the per-shot weight to handle anything the M80 is likely to encounter solo.

The missile complement extends that reach further: 16× S1 missiles across two racks of eight provide volume-fire options for light targets and countermeasure stripping, while 4× S3 missiles across two racks of two add genuine precision-strike capability against harder targets. Twenty missiles total on a ship this size is generous — it gives the pilot meaningful flexibility in how an engagement is opened and sustained.

All of this emerges from concealment when combat begins. When the weapons are retracted the M80 presents a clean, uninterrupted hull profile. The concealment is not purely aesthetic — it is a deliberate design statement that the ship's true nature only reveals itself when the pilot decides it should.

PERFORMANCE AND SURVIVABILITY
Two power plants and two shield generators give the M80 the redundant systems depth expected of a heavy fighter. Neither power nor shielding runs on a single point of failure — the ship can absorb component damage and keep fighting in ways that lighter, single-system configurations cannot. Two coolers support the thermal load that dual power plants and the full weapon suite will generate in sustained combat.

At 225 m/s SCM the M80 sits where heavy fighters typically do — below the agility-first light fighters but with the structural resilience to not need to match them. Twelve maneuvering thrusters suggest the ship retains enough directional responsiveness to stay competitive in the close fight even at heavier mass. For a solo pilot, the ability to keep orientation and manage the engagement window matters considerably more than raw top speed.

At 135,649 kg, the M80 is a substantial machine. That mass is the weight of its armor, its systems, and its capacity to sustain damage that would end a lighter ship's engagement early. Heavy fighters win by still being operational when their opponent is not. The M80 is built around that principle.
AVAILABLE PAINTS
Six paint options are available for the M80: Factory Standard, Tetra, Afterglow, Dynasty, Slate Camo, and Blaze. A limited edition paint was also offered during the DefenseCon 2956 reveal period.
