Origin M80 - Beauty is Power
Origin Jumpworks enters the heavy fighter category for the first time with the M80 — a solo platform carrying concealed S5 and S4 weaponry, dual shields, and 20 missiles behind one of the most striking hulls in the verse. Power and elegance, fully realized.
The M80 is the answer. It is a heavy fighter in every meaningful performance sense — high durability, serious armaments, built to outlast opponents through resilience and firepower rather than evasion. But it carries that capability in a hull that bears no resemblance to anything else in the category. The concealed weapon system is the defining characteristic: at rest, the M80 presents clean lines and an exterior that reveals nothing of what it carries. When engaged, the weapons emerge. The transformation is deliberate and it is part of how Origin positions the ship — a machine that captivates its target before it destroys it.
The missile complement extends that reach further: 16× S1 missiles across two racks of eight provide volume-fire options for light targets and countermeasure stripping, while 4× S3 missiles across two racks of two add genuine precision-strike capability against harder targets. Twenty missiles total on a ship this size is generous — it gives the pilot meaningful flexibility in how an engagement is opened and sustained.
All of this emerges from concealment when combat begins. When the weapons are retracted the M80 presents a clean, uninterrupted hull profile. The concealment is not purely aesthetic — it is a deliberate design statement that the ship's true nature only reveals itself when the pilot decides it should.
At 225 m/s SCM the M80 sits where heavy fighters typically do — below the agility-first light fighters but with the structural resilience to not need to match them. Twelve maneuvering thrusters suggest the ship retains enough directional responsiveness to stay competitive in the close fight even at heavier mass. For a solo pilot, the ability to keep orientation and manage the engagement window matters considerably more than raw top speed.
At 135,649 kg, the M80 is a substantial machine. That mass is the weight of its armor, its systems, and its capacity to sustain damage that would end a lighter ship's engagement early. Heavy fighters win by still being operational when their opponent is not. The M80 is built around that principle.
