Commodity
What to know
Commodities are generally resources intended to be processed or traded rather than equipped for personal use, such as Personal Weapons or Props. Much of a player's progression in Star Citizen is driven by trading goods, from high-value items carried on foot to volume-based hauling in the largest cargo ships.

Commodities can be purchased from mining outposts, hydroponic farms, and stations to be resold when or where demand is higher, or sourced directly through exploration, mining, and salvaging. Many commodities that can be collected on foot are found in and around Caves.
Storage and transport
Most ships and vehicles carry SCU cargo grids that hold commodities in shipping crates, though some are specialised for the role, such as the MISC Prospector and its mining saddlebags.
Refining
Gems collected by hand are ready to trade, but unrefined commodities such as mined ore cannot be sold at standard commodity terminals. They must first be sold to a refinery for processing.
Trading
A ship must be landed legally for its cargo to appear in a commodity terminal.
