What to know
Nyx I, the first planet of the Nyx system, was a coreless world noteworthy only for its searing heat, a metals rush, and the existence of gases normally found only in smog planets that prevented terraformation using currently available technology. This has changed with the arrival of Genesis Terraforming in 2954.

This has changed with the arrival of Genesis Terraforming in 2954.
Terraforming attempts
Discovered (and abortively named "Lou") in SEY 2582 along with the rest of the Nyx system, Nyx I was completely unimportant until a survey discovered the presence of high-value metals. This lead to the risky attempts of multiple companies to try their hand at terraforming the hot world, only to be defeated by the technological inability of the time that could not deal with the atmosphere's composition.
Mining under heat
The inability to mine in less boiling temperatures, safety, or much of any comfort would not stop the mining operations to come. For fifty years miners and their equipment would struggle under the heat, working from the 26th into the 27th Century extracting the planet's wealth to supply the war factories and shipyards of the Kilian system. Ultimately this wealth was exhausted to the point profits began to fall below the upkeep costs of heat, wear, and hazard pay, so by 2630 Nyx I had broadly been abandoned.
Terraforming once more
Centuries of abandonment later, Genesis Terraforming arrived in 2954 having selected Nyx I to prove a groundbreaking terraforming experiment. They had completed the development of a suite of brand new terraformation platform designs specifically intended to scrub atmospheres clean of the gases specific to smog planets and unusual cases such as Nyx I, finally enabling the until-now impossible alteration of their atmospheres to a breathable mix of oxygen and nitrogen. Setting to work without bothering to consult the People's Alliance, the independent society local to the Nyx system, Genesis Terraforming had by November of 2955 successfully reduced the hot world's temperature enough to allow the appearance of nascent oceans and had achieved promising progress in the similarly nascent alteration of its atmosphere.
