RSI Apollo Q&A - Medical Ship Details

Developers answer questions about the RSI Apollo Medivac and Triage, covering MedBed modules, size increase, handling, weapons, paints, lights, and storage.

RSI Apollo Q&A - Medical Ship Details

The Apollo has always been RSI’s way of saying: when lives are on the line, you answer the call. Whether you’re flying the Medivac or the Triage, these ships are built to dive headfirst into chaos and bring others back from the brink. I got the chance to pore over some developer answers about the Apollo’s updated systems, design choices, and the tools that make it a true medical workhorse.

Here’s the full Q&A, straight from the Vehicle and Gameplay teams.

Q: Does the Apollo come with MedBed modules by default?

Yes. Both the Medivac and Triage variants come outfitted with two Tier 3 MedBed modules as standard—one in each of the ship’s two module slots (left and right). On top of that, every Apollo pledge includes two Tier 2 and two Tier 1 MedBed modules, which you can swap into either slot as needed.

Q: What advantages does equipping a Tier 2 or Tier 3 MedBed module provide compared to a Tier 1?

Tier 2 and Tier 3 MedBeds don’t just treat different levels of injury—they also provide better capacity and throughput for regenerations. In practice, this means you can service more patients at once, though regeneration range still depends on the tier (lower tiers offer significantly smaller ranges).

Q: Following the recent changes to medical gameplay spawn range and cost, how will the Apollo function if I equip two MedBed modules of different tiers?

Respawn cost is tied to the bed itself, not the ship. Down the line, medical gameplay will allow players to choose both the bed and location before respawning, giving more flexibility and choice in where you come back.

Q: What are the reasons for the increase in size since the Apollo’s initial concept?

The Apollo grew because gameplay evolved. As design requirements shifted, the ship needed more room to allow proper angles and space for gurneys to move through the interior and for effective use of the rear ramp. The new dimensions reflect those practical needs.

Q: With the Apollo’s size having increased considerably, how is this reflected in handling, weaponry, and component loadout?

Handling has been tuned to suit the Apollo’s larger frame. To compensate for that increased mass, RSI doubled the shield generators—now packing four Size 2s. Missile and gun hardpoints have also been upgraded to align with both its expanded role and current game design standards.

Q: Are the Apollo paints compatible between the Triage and Medivac versions?

Yes, all paints are interchangeable between the two variants.

Q: Do the Apollo ships have emergency lights?

They do. Just like the Terrapin Medic, the Apollo’s emergency lights are controllable via a dashboard button, letting you light up the scene when seconds matter.

Q: Does the Apollo provide dedicated storage for medical tools?

Yes. The ship has two weapon rack areas that hold a total of nine items: three slots for pistols, three for rifles, shotguns, or SMGs, and three for utility gear—which includes medical tools. In addition, each MedBed module has its own storage shelves for MedGel canisters, keeping your supplies organized and ready for action.
