This Week in Star Citizen - July 28, 2025

Hey pilots, welcome back! Another week in the ‘verse means more updates from the devs, some fun community highlights, and a peek at what’s happening in the days ahead. Last week we got to officially meet Simon Gershon, the new Audio Director, during Star Citizen Live. The Audio Team was on hand to answer top community questions, covering everything from immersive ship sounds to VOIP improvements and lively NPC chatter. Lots to look forward to in the soundscape of our universe.

On the technical side, the team’s rolling out a hotfix for Alpha 4.2.1 today that should sort the frustrating bug with stacked cargo boxes on freight elevators (a big quality-of-life fix for haulers). While 4.2.1 keeps getting polished, Alpha 4.3.0 is already in active development with even more improvements based directly on your feedback.

Recent Updates

Here’s what’s lined up this week:

  • Tuesday, July 29: Ship Showdown Phase 1 begins! Nominate your favorite flyable ships and help them climb into the Top 16. Expect lots of noise and fun ship rivalries.
  • Wednesday, July 30: Updates to the Public Roadmap and the Roadmap Roundup, plus Ship Showdown Phase 1 continues.
  • Friday, August 1: The RSI Weekly Newsletter drops, recapping highlights and showing off some of the community’s best creations. Also, Ship Showdown gets an update with its first leaderboard.

Maintenance & Technical Updates

  • Hotfix for Alpha 4.2.1 rolling out today, fixing cargo box stacking on freight elevators.
  • Ongoing development on Alpha 4.3.0 with improvements shaped by player reports and feedback.

Community & Events

Vision Quest Truth brings us some more in-lore flavor with "Smuggling Origin 300," featuring poetic musings about planetary oddities like Pinecone and The Hive, along with some hints of Kr'Thak tech caches.

Community MVP (July 28, 2025): This week’s standout is “Storytellers” – a community creation recognized for its excellence. The creator gets an MVP badge and a spot in the MVP Hall.

Imperial Geographic July 2955 (by Yannock): A special issue diving into the battle-scarred decks of an Idris, new ships destined for future wars, and the motivations of those still choosing service over comfort. Another great entry from Yannock’s team.
