The Impound summary

What to know

The MISC Expanse is a single-seat mobile refinery built to receive raw ore from mining ships, process several batches at once, and transfer more valuable refined material into the next cargo route.

Move refining closer to the resource field

Six independent reactors can run different processes or materials at the same time. Tractor beams and external pod handling let the pilot receive ore from nearby miners and return refined output without sending every raw load back to a station.

A refinery ship, not another miner

The Expanse does not search for deposits or fracture rock. Its role begins when another ship hands over raw ore and ends when refined material is ready for storage, transport, or sale.

Development note: The Expanse is currently in concept. Because Star Citizen remains in active development, specifications, features, and imagery may change over time.

The Expanse's refining system

The Expanse uses the six independent refining reactors to turn raw ore into a more valuable load without sending every batch back to a station.

Reactors

Six independent refining reactors can run different processes or materials at the same time, letting one pilot adapt each batch to the ore received.

Cargo pod mounts

Eight slots for expanded cargo pods (64 SCU) with another eight compressed above them. These allow the Expanse to pick up dropped ore pods from other mining ships and refine them immediately.

Steady ore intake

The Expanse receives raw material without making every mining ship wait for the previous batch to finish.

Expanse's batch control

The pilot can track what is being processed, how long it will take, and where the finished material will go.

Six refinery reactors working in parallel

The Expanse carries six dedicated reactors that can run different refining jobs at the same time. External ore-pod positions, integrated tractor beams, and 64 SCU of carried capacity let the crew receive raw material from mining ships and return a higher-value product.

Receive Receive raw ore

Bring raw ore into the Expanse and assign each batch to the six independent refining reactors.

Process Process each batch through the six independent refining reactors

Watch reactor time, yield, and free capacity while the six independent refining reactors turns ore into refined material.

Transfer Transfer the refined material

Move finished material out of the Expanse before storage or pod capacity slows the next batch.

From raw ore to transferable cargo

The Expanse moves refining closer to the resource field by using the six independent refining reactors on several batches before the ore enters the cargo route home.

  1. Receive ore from nearby mining ships

The pilot confirms which ore batch is arriving and where the Expanse will send the refined output.

  2. Choose the right refining process

The Expanse receives ore without holding the mining ship beside the refinery longer than needed.

  3. Keep output moving

The pilot watches reactor time, yield, and free capacity while the Expanse processes the batch.

  4. Move the refined output into the next cargo route

The Expanse's pilot clears pod capacity and prepares the refinery for the next ore delivery.

The mobile refinery aboard the Expanse

The Expanse connects its six independent refining reactors to ore intake, processing, storage, and transfer so miners can keep working away from a station.

01 Integrated tractor beams

These ensure that receiving raw materials and distributing processed ore are entirely hands-off procedures.

02 Expanse's refinery defense

Two Size 1 pilot controlled weapons offer protection when refining in the field.

03 Ore intake

Transfer equipment brings raw ore into the Expanse without forcing mining ships to end their work and return to a station.

04 Refinery controls

Aboard the Expanse, the pilot assigns each batch to the six independent refining reactors and watches processing time, yield, and available capacity.

The Expanse turns field deliveries into refined cargo

The Expanse's pilot manages ore intake, reactor settings, refinery yield, pod capacity, and the transfer of finished material.

Expanse - Operations room through window in Star Citizen

Move ore from the mining ship to the refinery

The Expanse receives raw ore from other ships and processes it with its six independent refining reactors. The pilot watches yield and storage space before transferring the refined material.

Intake Organize raw material before assigning a batch

Aboard the Expanse, pod handling and clear transfer calls keep raw material moving into the refinery while mining ships return to the field.

Processing Match each batch to the right process

For the Expanse, raw ore enters the six independent refining reactors, while the crew prepares storage and transfer space for the refined material.

Output Move finished material into the cargo chain

The Expanse's pilot needs free pod capacity and a receiving ship before processed material becomes the next bottleneck.

Inside the Expanse's extraction systems

The Expanse places the six independent refining reactors within a clear flow from scanning and extraction to collection, storage, and transfer for refining.
