History

In 2558, Ozell Kruger opened a workshop on her home planet of Borea in the Magnus system and named the company Kruger Intergalactic. Its ability to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget quickly impressed customers, and the company opened during the Borea boom, which helped the fledgling operation thrive.

Building on that early growth, Kruger Intergalactic expanded from those modest beginnings into a multi-billion credit business. It specializes in expertly crafted, custom-machined parts and, more recently, in producing complete weapons and ships, including the Tigerstrike rotary cannon and the P-52 Merlin snub fighter.

Military complex

As the Navy expanded, UPE funding flowed into the planet, which for a time was a major military hub and a center of ship construction. Kruger was still a small operation without the infrastructure or production pipeline to compete for government contracts, so it focused on producing components for larger companies. Its selling point was the ability to manufacture a wide variety of parts for everything from weapons to construction equipment to ships. With manufacturers scrambling to fill orders and Kruger's reputation spreading, its services were in high demand. During this period, Kruger began its longstanding relationship with Behring and RSI. From laser-cut firing pins on Behring's P8-ARM Rifle to forged capital ship components, Kruger-designed parts became essential to many products.

This growth occurred before Magnus' military-industrial bubble burst. In 2751, the UEE moved its main shipbuilding yard to the Kilian system. As numerous companies closed or left the system, Magnus' economy collapsed. Kruger not only survived but expanded, taking advantage of the downturn to buy cheap real estate and abandoned equipment. At the time, Kruger's CEO, Artyom Chansiri, said the company would stay loyal to the system and told trade publications that its parts would always be "made in Magnus."

Chansiri was not able to keep that pledge. As legitimate businesses left Magnus, residents turned to illegal industries to survive, and the system earned a reputation as a developed region with a frontier mentality. Each year, Kruger executives grew more concerned as additional credits were spent protecting shipments.

In 2785, pirates raided a large convoy of Kruger-made RSI parts leaving the system. The disruption to RSI's supply chain placed one of Kruger's key partnerships in jeopardy, and the company sought a solution. Years later, leaked corporate documents revealed that Chansiri had personally guaranteed that Kruger would leave the Magnus system to retain RSI's business. It remained only to find a suitable and cost-effective new home for its operation.

Kruger eventually settled on a site near Sherman on Castra II. The planet was originally a military base built during the cold war with the Xi'an. In 2789, relations with the Xi'an had improved enough for the system to be designated for Citizen and civilian use. With ample affordable space, solid infrastructure, and secure shipping routes, Sherman was a suitable destination, and Kruger relocated once the planet opened to non-military entities. Sherman has housed the company's headquarters ever since.

The whole picture

After centuries of success as a parts manufacturer, an offhand remark by an executive at a board meeting, that the company "made all the parts for a gun, except for the gun itself," changed Kruger's course. Its first entry into the weapons market was a line of ballistic Gatling guns named Tigerstrike, whose craftsmanship and straightforward design produced a powerful weapon.

Sales were initially slow. Because Kruger had previously been known only by industry insiders, weapon buyers were uncertain about the new product. To demonstrate the gun's capability, Kruger arranged a deal with Aegis, giving Aegis a discount on parts production in exchange for changing the Avenger's stock weapon to the Tigerstrike. With both military and Advocacy personnel praising the gun, its popularity rose, and its success encouraged the company to continue developing other weapons.

Following its transition to full-scale weapons manufacture, Kruger turned to building ships. After the slow start of its weapons program, it knew this would carry a higher financial risk, so it sought a way to enter the field without full exposure. Leveraging its strengths, it again looked to a larger company for support and won a contract to produce two short-range ships for RSI to package with the Constellation line. Those ships, the P-52 Merlin and P-72 Archimedes, feature Kruger parts and weapons.

In 2955, Kruger unveiled its most ambitious project. The L-21 Wolf is the first ship the company developed and manufactured entirely on its own. Based on an original design created when Kruger was first working on the Merlin, the ship's retro-futuristic look had been considered too expensive to produce because of multiple manufacturing challenges. Building on centuries of industrial experience and the techniques learned during its partnership with RSI, Kruger developed new production methods that allowed it to manufacture the Wolf.

To mark the occasion, Kruger also updated its logo for the first time. A silver and white color scheme replaced the red and yellow used for centuries. The bird of prey logo remained, as it had been chosen by Ozell because of her interest in falconry. Ozell Kruger opened her original workshop intending to make quality parts, and the words that once marked her first shop, "Perfection in every piece," became the motto of a company known throughout the Empire.
