History

MISC was formed in 2805 through an arranged business merger between the failing Hato Electronics Corporation and the Musashi Lifestyle Design Unit, a spinoff of Acorn Limited. The merger combined Hato's extensive network of large-scale production facilities with Musashi's reputation for design. The company is based on Saisei in the Centauri system, where it maintains its corporate offices and a central dealership facility that is open to the public. MISC is also known for its ergonomic factories, in which each spacecraft component is assembled robotically, and it has established fully modular, identical production lines on dozens of worlds.

For most of the company's history, the majority of its business has come from its heavy industrial division, MISC-HI, which produces a range of configurable bulk transport spacecraft that are common throughout UEE space. These modular hulls form the basis for much of human corporate shipping, and they also became popular among the Xi'an. MISC is the only human spacecraft corporation to sign a lend-lease agreement with the Xi'an, concluded in a closed-door conference in 2910. Although the specifics of the deal have remained a closely held trade secret, Xi'an technology is reported to have influenced the development of the Freelancer, and some accounts suggest that MISC has adapted Xi'an thruster technologies for use in its human-built craft.

In later years, MISC directed profits from its corporate line into two spacecraft marketed for personal use, the Freelancer and the Starfarer, competing against established builders such as Roberts Space Industries and Drake Interplanetary. The Freelancer applies the modularity of the MISC-HI concept to a smaller hull and has been adopted by long-haul merchants and explorers alike. The Starfarer is a niche design that became the standard fuel transport, capable of both collecting spaceborne fuel and refueling other craft in flight.

Mirai

Mirai, a MISC subsidiary, focuses on high-performance racing and luxury ships, drawing on MISC's technological work to produce craft that emphasize both speed and design. MISC created the Mirai sub-brand in response to the success of the Fury prototype, with the aim of developing experimental and next-generation ships and integrating Xi'an technology further. Notable Mirai ships include the Razor, a racing ship that won the Murray Cup Classic Race in 2945 and became a commercial success on its release in 2947.

Fujin City

Fujin City is the primary landing point for visitors to Saisei. It features an automated high-volume landing platform, personal hangars, and amenities including an Astro Armada ship dealer and an Advocacy field office. Downtown Fujin City is home to the MISC corporate showroom, which displays the latest Freelancer, Starfarer, and bulk transport hulls. The central MISC factory, in the city's outer environs, is a modular facility that can change its ship output as needed, contributing to Saisei's reputation as one of the cleanest planets in the known galaxy.
