Stegman's Clothing and Uniforms
What to know
Stegman's Clothing and Uniforms is a human workwear brand that makes uniforms and protective gear. Founded by husband and wife Greg Stegman and Ahanti Riordan, the company began in SEY 2635 as a storefront owned by Riordan's family, where Stegman sold handmade workwear. By 2643, it had grown enough to open a factory and distribute its products throughout the United Empire of Earth (UEE). Since the early 28th Century, Stegman's items have been a staple on job sites across the UEE, owing in part to the "tough, durable, and comfortable" standard that Greg Stegman set for every garment.

History
Greg Stegman was born in 2615 to a small, politically weak family clan in the underground tunnels of Urial (Oberon system). His father delivered crates by hand while his mother worked in tunnel maintenance. After his mother was injured when her cheap, threadbare work pants failed, Stegman took to mending the family's worn clothing rather than playing. His mother later crewed cargo haulers to support the family, and on one run she brought him to Locke (Idris system). Stegman fell in love with Tanys, Locke's capital city, which was experiencing an economic boom fueled by Aegis factories. At seventeen he moved to Tanys and took a factory job.
Ahanti Riordan came from a family that had helped colonize Locke and survived the orbital bombardment of the First Tevarin War. After the war, her family built a popular restaurant on the Lost Quad, Tanys' central plaza, and expanded into franchises and real estate. While managing the restaurant in 2633, Riordan noticed Stegman sewing patches into clothes in the plaza and learned that he repaired co-workers' garments to send extra credits to his family. Recognizing his talent, she hired him to make uniforms for her business and set him up in a small storefront the family owned. The shop succeeded on his skill and on the competitive pricing that rent-free premises allowed, and the two fell in love and became lifelong partners in business.
In 2643, the operation moved to a large factory dedicated to manufacturing and was officially named Stegman's Clothing and Uniforms, with Riordan as CEO. She implemented the "TDC" tests, design and production phases that evaluated how tough, durable, and comfortable each item was. Using her connections in Locke's business community, she secured uniform contracts, and a 2650 contract with Aegis allowed the company to scale further, open its first factories outside Idris, and begin selling to consumers. By the early 2700s, Stegman's clothing had become a staple on job sites across the Empire.
Stegman and Riordan retired in 2704 to focus on her declining health, having trained their six children to take over the business. Growth eventually stagnated and then declined. In the 2840s, Nasiah Finney, a great-granddaughter of the founders and the company's CEO, attempted to revitalize Stegman's by expanding into industrial armor. After a lengthy and costly research process, focus groups rejected the armor as clunky and uncomfortable, and Finney shuttered the division rather than fund a redesign, a decision credited with saving the company from bankruptcy.
Finney refocused the company on its core products, reverting several of its best-known items to Stegman's original designs. The resulting Generations Collection was supported by a marketing campaign that paired modern workers with photographs of relatives wearing the same garments decades or centuries earlier. The return to basics, combined with the consolidation and closure of several competitors, led to a rebound for the brand. Although the company built its name on hard hats, safety glasses, and uniforms, the comfort, durability, and rugged aesthetic of its clothing has also made it popular for everyday wear.
